With rule-based workflows, unlike ad hoc workflows, it is not possible to switch between the configured statuses at will. Instead, starting from a status, one or more transitions to the respective target status must be configured.
To create a new rule-based workflow, the Rule-based type must be selected in the Workflows area after clicking on New.
The workflow editor opens, which can be used to configure a rule-based workflow. A first status with the name "Start" is created when the workflow is created, which is also preset as the start status.
This status can be renamed or changed in colour with a double-click. As a workflow must always contain at least one status, it is only possible to delete a status if there is at least one other status.
The following describes how a workflow is structured using a minimal workflow:
This workflow contains four statuses that are connected to each other via three transitions:
A status is represented by a rounded rectangle. The start status has a thicker frame and is therefore easy to recognise.
A transition is the arrow that connects one status to the next. The direction of the arrow indicates the direction in which the transition is to be executed.
